October 17 Candidate Forum at SUNY Geneseo

Residents of Livingston County and the SUNY-Geneseo community will have an opportunity to hear from candidates appearing on their November ballots at a Candidate Forum hosted by the College on Thursday evening, October 17. The event begins at 7 pm in 202 Newton Hall (on University Drive), the largest lecture room on campus (which seats 400)

"We are very pleased that the College has revived this important tradition," said Judith Hunter, the Livingston County Democratic Committee Chair. "It's such a great opportunity for students and also the rest of the public to get to know the candidates and their positions. We have always seen robust community attendance at these forums."

"Unfortunately," Hunter continued, "even though the Republicans were offered the same opportunity as the Democrats, not one of their candidates made themselves available on any of the four dates the College proposed for this event. Evidently, they don't believe Livingston County voters deserve to hear from all of the candidates."

Almost all of the Democratic candidates have committed to attend the Candidate Forum. Greg McCaffrey (Livingston County District Attorney), David Wagenhauser (NY 24 congressional candidate), Scott Comegys (NY 54 State Senate candidate), Colleen Walsh-Williams, (NY 133 Assembly candidate), and Erin Skinner (State Supreme Court Judge candidate) will all be there Thursday night October 17. The only Democratic candidate who cannot attend, John Bringewatt (State Supreme Court candidate), is sending a representative who will make available information about him and his campaign.

"It's such a shame that the Republicans are avoiding the voters on this important occasion," said Hunter. "The College truly endeavored to make this a bipartisan event. It's too bad that none of the Republican candidates deigned to make themselves available."
